Modules
Required Modules
All students on the MSc/MRes in Biotechnology & Computational Biology are required to take:
- Molecular & Cellular Biotechnology (30 credits)
- Protein Characterisation & Engineering (30 credits)
- Drug Discovery & Design (30 credits)
- Entrepreneurship and Advanced Skills (30 credits)
Students are also required to complete a Research Project module depending on the pathway:
- MSc Research Project (60 credits)
- MRes Research Project (120 credits)
Optional Modules
There are no optional modules for this course.
Teaching methods - what to expect
Formal teaching and self-directed study will include, but are not limited to: lectures, tutorials, workshops, practicals, background reading and preparation, lab report write-ups, presentations, research.
Typically, one credit equates to 10 hours of work.
We will use a delivery method that will ensure students have a rich, exciting experience from the start. Face-to-face teaching will be complemented and supported with innovative technology so that students also experience elements of digital learning and assessment.
Assessment
- Coursework
No traditional written exams will be used. Forms of assessment may typically include problem solving and data analysis, lab reports, video and poster presentations, mock job interviews, project proposals, business case applications, an extended dissertation and lab performance assessment during the project.
Course structure
Courses are divided into modules. Students will normally take: MSc – modules totalling 180 credits or MRes – modules totalling 240 credits
