Overview
The Master of Digital Health (MDH) is the first award of its kind in the UK, designed to prepare the next generation of digital health leaders. Bringing together healthcare, technology, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), informatics, behavioural science, ethics and leadership, the programme will equip you with the skills to design, implement and evaluate digital health solutions responsibly in real-world health systems. You will explore how technologies such as AI, electronic health records, wearable devices, remote monitoring and digital therapeutics are transforming healthcare delivery and improving patient outcomes. Through a combination of academic study and applied learning, you will develop skills in health data analysis, digital health innovation, intervention design and evaluation, ethics, regulation and governance. The programme is designed for graduates and professionals from a range of backgrounds, including health, life and social sciences, technology, policy and related disciplines, and benefits from King's extensive partnerships with the NHS, King’s Health Partners and industry collaborators.
Course essentials
The Master of Digital Health (MDH) provides an interdisciplinary education for students who want to understand, shape and lead the future of digital healthcare. The programme explores how digital technologies, data, AI and systems thinking can be applied to improve health outcomes, enhance patient care, reduce inequalities and strengthen health systems across diverse global settings.
You will learn how digital health solutions are designed, implemented, evaluated and governed in real-world settings. The programme brings together perspectives from health sciences, behavioural science, data science, informatics, public health, ethics and policy, enabling you to explore how these disciplines work together to support responsible digital transformation. The programme will support you to assess evidence, work across disciplines, communicate with specialist and non-specialist audiences, and consider the ethical, social and organisational factors that shape whether digital health solutions succeed in practice. Through case studies, global perspectives and collaborative learning, the MDH supports the development of critical thinking, leadership capability and professional adaptability. You will benefit from our our work with partners including Garmin and leaders from NHS organisations such as Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, who contribute to teaching and student engagement.
Graduates will be well positioned to drive digital transformation initiatives, champion equitable and sustainable healthcare solutions, and pursue impactful careers across the rapidly expanding field of digital health.
The MDH is structured to provide strong foundational knowledge, applied study and opportunities for specialist development in digital health. You will follow a set of compulsory modules that build core knowledge in digital health, AI, informatics, intervention design, evaluation, implementation, ethics and governance. Alongside this common grounding, you will have the option to tailor your learning by selecting modules that reflect your interests, such as data science, regulation, innovation and entrepreneurship, global health or systems perspectives, health economics and qualitative research. The programme culminates in a substantial research dissertation, through which you can apply and integrate learning under academic supervision.
Both full‑time and part‑time routes follow the same overall design, with the part‑time pathway distributing learning evenly across two academic years to support sustained engagement alongside other commitments. This structure is designed to remain flexible as the field evolves, maintaining a coherent balance between core knowledge, specialist choice and independent research.
