Teaching methods - what to expect

Blended learning
Clinical skills simulation
Directed self-study
Online discussions
Seminars & Tutorials
Online lectures

You will be taught primarily through King’s E-learning and Teaching Service (KEATS), which provides structured learning materials, guided reading, interactive tasks, assignments and access to bibliographic databases. Students participate in scheduled online tutorials and discussion sessions designed to support critical engagement with the curriculum.

Face-to-face components take place in structured residential blocks (7 days) during Years 1 and 2. These sessions focus on simulation-based skill development, technical demonstration, and structured peer and tutor discussion. The face-to-face blocks do not involve supervised treatment of patients and do not constitute clinical training in a hospital or specialist practice setting.

Students are required to undertake clinical work within their own general practice setting and maintain a reflective clinical log. All patient treatment and clinical decision-making remain the sole responsibility of the treating clinician.

Online tutorials are scheduled at defined points within the academic year and are designed to support engagement with core themes. Students should expect significant independent study between scheduled teaching activities, consistent with postgraduate level study.

The face-to-face component normally takes place over seven consecutive days in Year 1, and seven consecutive days in Year 2 at King’s College London's Waterloo Campus.

The following table will give you an idea of what a typical year might look like as you progress through your studies. Typically, one credit equates to 10 hours of work.

Notes to applicants

  • Students should note that the course does not prepare candidates for the RCS MEndo examinations or represent a pathway to registration with the GDC (UK) as an Endodontic specialist.
  • The provision of any clinical opinions, treatment planning, treatment plans and/or any advice in relation to care of individual patients will not be provided by the teachers and staff of the course. Patient treatment and care is the sole responsibility of the treating clinician. Advice regarding the suitability of a clinical case for submission for the clinical module can be given at the tutor’s discretion.

Assessment

  • Assignments
  • Exams
  • Written Reports
  • Clinical Portfolios

Typically, each module will be assessed through exams and/or assignments, with the exception of the Operative Procedures module and the Endodontic Retreatment/Surgery & Restoration of Endodontically Treated Teeth module which will be assessed through clinical portfolios, and your final project, which will normally be assessed by a 10,000-word written report. You can take your exams in London or, for overseas students, at centres in your country of residence.

Application closing date guidance

Our first application deadline is on 1 October 2026 (23:59 UK time). After this date, the programme will remain open only if places are still available and will be closed as soon as it is full. Where the programme remains open beyond this date, no further applications will be accepted after 20 November 2026 (23:59 UK time).

Please note, you will not be eligible for an application fee refund if you apply after the first application deadline in October and we are unable to process more offers as places are filled before the final application deadline above.

We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible before the deadlines above as we may need to request further information from you to assess your application. This is particularly important if your application is successful and you are made a conditional offer. Any conditions must be met by the deadline set in the offer letter.
