Teaching methods - what to expect
The programme is organised over 2 calendar years and comprises 180 Level 7 credits (totals approximately 1800 hours of student endeavour) plus a minimum of 1000 hours of professional practice clinical placements.
College-based teaching is arranged over 3 days a week using a blended-learning approach that integrates face-to-face campus-based activities (eg lectures, seminars, practicals, clinical simulation, workshops) with structured online and self-directed learning (e-learning, individual and in groups). A series of case-based learning opportunities expose students to real-world scenarios that need to be solved using reasoning and existing theoretical knowledge.
Practice education is arranged in Clinical Placement blocks that are full time and take place in a variety of health and social care settings. Specific clinical placement hours are dictated by the placement setting and whilst typically they are Monday to Friday they may also require students to undertake shift work, 7-day working and extended hours etc.
Students can expect that for the majority of taught modules they will spend between 30 - 40% of their time in blended learning and 60% in self-directed learning.
For the 45 credit Research for Physiotherapy Practice module, you are expected to undertake approximately 450 hours of self-directed learning under supervision.
Typically, one credit equates to 10 hours of work (excluding clinical placement hours).
