Teaching methods - what to expect

Lectures

Workshops
Independent Study

We will use a delivery method that will ensure students have a rich, exciting experience from the start. Face-to-face teaching will be complemented and supported with innovative technology so that students also experience elements of digital learning and assessment.

The programme is taught via diverse methods including but not limited to lectures, flipped classroom sessions, seminars, and tutorials and complemented by workshops, facility tours, and a 6-month research project in one of the cancer research laboratories led by our leading academics.

During the research project, the student will benefit from one-to-one teaching and learn to develop skills in laboratory practice, designing and conducting experiments, collecting and analysing results, discussing the meaning of the data obtained, critically evaluating the data in terms of the broader picture of work in the area, organising time and managing an electronic lab book on a day-to-day basis.

Students are also expected to undertake a significant amount of independent study.

Assessment

  • Written assignment
  • Poster Presentations

Assessment types are diverse spanning a limited number of exams complemented by written assignments (e.g. Essays, Designing Learning Materials, Lab Report, Dissertation) as well as oral and poster presentations. Each module is assessed by more than one component to diversify the methodology of assessment.
