Social Mobility & Widening Participation

The lecture series is made up of 14 core lectures and a bonus programme of talks to support you in crafting your best application. It is your hub of support on your journey to studying medicine and dentistry. The programme consists of online lectures delivered by practicing doctors, dentists, and King’s social mobility staff, Q&A’s with current medical and dental students, and advice on the application process. You’ll become part of a community of like-minded students who are interested in finding out what it is like to have a career in healthcare and what it takes to succeed.
“Attending the lecture series was instrumental in confirming my decision to pursue dentistry. ”
This programme is for students in years 11, 12, 13 (and those on a gap year prior to applying to university).
You must have only attended non-selective state schools since the age of 11 to be eligible, and we encourage students to be studying A level Biology and Chemistry in-line with our required subjects for our standard, extended and enhanced medical and dental degrees.
The programme takes place as a live stream on Microsoft Teams Live Events. Students will be able to access the lecture via an internet browser on a computer or mobile device.
The lecture series begins in early February and runs until July. The programme is broken up into ‘seasons’ of approximately three to four lectures, with one lecture delivered each week.
Applications for the 2024 lecture series programme have now closed. Applications for the 2025 programme will open in November.
If you have any questions about the programme, please contact Jake Featherstone, Senior Social Mobility & Widening Participation Officer via email on outreachformedicine@kcl.ac.uk.
