Our Chemistry BSc equips you with the in-demand skills to make a real impact on the world. You'll gain deep knowledge and hands-on laboratory experience across all areas of chemistry, from how medicines work to developing sustainable solutions.
Our unique interdisciplinary approach and strong links with King's world-class Health Faculties and hospitals will prepare you to tackle complex, real-world problems, opening the door to a range of future-focused careers. Our graduates pursue roles in the chemical, biotech, and pharmaceutical industries, but also in tech, finance, and even law, where their analytical and problem-solving skills are invaluable.
Taught by leading scientists who are shaping the future of chemistry, our course provides rigorous training in core principles including physical, organic, and inorganic chemistry, plus the lab skills to apply your learning and understand the power of chemistry in solving challenges and driving innovation. You will also tackle an open-ended project, helping sharpen essential career skills like project management, communication, and teamwork.
You can also choose to study for our integrated Master’s course (MSci) – adding a fourth year to your degree during which you’ll undertake a substantial project of your choice, tackling a real-world problem in the Department of Chemistry, King’s Health Faculties', or even the Francis Crick Institute, a King’s partner and global leader in biomedical research.

Course essentials
Chemistry at King’s draws on the interface between the physical and life sciences, to explore new frontiers and deliver fundamental solutions for a sustainable and healthy society. Experts in everything from pharmaceutical sciences, green chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology and computational methods, our academics are fighting against antimicrobial resistance, improving chemotherapy treatments and finding new uses for enzymes in carbon capture and plastic recycling.
Our Chemistry BSc course integrates a comprehensive grounding in core chemistry principles with the skills and understanding to apply this in a broad range of contexts, drawing from active chemical and biomedical research and practice at King’s.
Flexibility in course choice
You can apply for the integrated Master’s course (MSci in Chemistry) which includes a fourth year of study. There is also flexibility to transfer to this programme in the second and third year of your BSc.
Students on the BSc and MSci courses do the same first three years, which includes project-driven laboratory practicals in Year 3. MSci students also have the opportunity to transfer to a study abroad pathway to spend either an additional year, or a semester of their fourth year, studying at a partner institution before returning to King’s to complete their studies. Transfer between these two degrees is possible up to and including the third year and is dependent on reaching a specified average grade.
Transferring from the Chemistry MSci/BSc degrees to the Chemistry with Biomedicine MSci/BSc degrees is also possible up to the end of your second term of the first year.
Students on this degree are also able to transfer to the corresponding ‘with a Year in Industry’ programme after their second year, provided they meet the academic requirements and gain one of the competitive year-long internships. This will add an extra year to the programme.
Transfer and progression to either of the study abroad pathways or the ‘with a Year in Industry’ programme requires students to meet and maintain a grade threshold. If the MSci and Year in Industry programmes are of interest, please refer to the programme listing for details on content, fees and visas.
