Teaching methods - what to expect

Independent Study

King's College London

At King’s you will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and independent study. We encourage critical analysis and debate on contemporary business issues.

Each week, a typical 15-credit module will include:

  • One 1 - 2 hour lecture
  • One 1-hour tutorial

We place strong emphasis on independent study and research. As a student of business and finance, you will engage with a wide range of resources - including books, newspapers, magazines, online platforms, social media, television, and radio - to deepen your understanding of the field. This will help you explore how business practices have evolved over time, examine current issues and challenges, and consider what the future may hold.

Typically, one credit equates to 10 hours of work.

EDHEC Business School

At EDHEC, students experience a wide variety of teaching approaches, including action-based learning, fostering active, hands-on learning without compromising theoretical foundations. This method encourages students to apply concepts through practical experiences—such as case studies, simulations, workshops, and real-world projects—helping them develop essential skills while reinforcing academic knowledge.

In year 3, you will choose a minor from two options (Marketing or Finance) to complete alongside your compulsory modules. You will also complete a practical internship in the second semester, which includes the writing of a report and its oral defence.

In year 4, you will choose a specialisation from several available options and complete a final-year internship, during which you will write a bachelor thesis (final-year dissertation), including a written component and an oral defence.
