Teaching methods - what to expect

Lectures

Lecture material will combine pure science with clinical applications of this knowledge to provide a firm platform in the current theories and subject area.

Assessment

  • Written examinations

Your performance will be assessed through a combination of coursework and written examinations. Forms of assessment may typically include laboratory dissertation, critical reviews, and oral presentations.

Modules

Year

You will normally take modules totaling 120 credits; core modules adding up to 90 credits and optional modules adding up to 30 credits.

Required Modules

You are required to take the following core modules which add up to 90 credits:

  • Regenerative Medicine (15 credits)
  • Material Science and Applied Biomaterials (30 credits)
  • Microbiome in Health and Disease (15 credits)
  • Research Project (30 credits)

Optional Modules

In addition, you are required to take optional modules worth 30 credits.

*Choice of options outside FoDOCS may be subject to timetabling and number limitations and hence cannot be guaranteed.

  • Oral Biology (15 credits)
  • Clinical Humanities Ia 6 (15 credits)
  • Clinical Humanities IIb 6 (15 credits)
  • *External Options (15 credits)
  • *Language options (15 credits)

BDS and Dental Therapy & Hygiene BSc students may not take the clinical humanities modules as these overlap with core modules in their respective programmes.
