We strive to create systemic change within and beyond King’s

Through the delivery of our Sustainability Strategy, published in June 2026, King’s Sustainability aims to tackle the climate and ecological crises head on, embedding climate action and sustainable practices across the University. Through three key themes – education, research & innovation and operations – as well as engaging with our community, we are working to help our students, staff and partners meet the challenges presented by the climate and ecological crises.

This whole-university strategic priority is embedded across King's and steered by a team sitting across the Vice Chancellor’s Office, Estates & Facilities, the Research Management & Innovation Directorate, Analytics and Procurement.

The new King’s Sustainability structure will be in place from 1 August 2026.

Sustainability governance

Sustainability at King's is sponsored by the Senior Vice President (Academic) and delivery of the strategy is led by the Assistant Principal (Sustainability) and Director of Sustainability. We will utilise the academic and professional expertise of our community to ensure decisions and planning are informed by thought leadership and best practice, ensuring that King’s remains at the forefront of action addressing the climate and ecological crises. The Sustainability Advisory Group, chaired by the Senior Vice President (Academic), reports to University Executive and provides oversight, advocacy and accountability for the delivery of the implementation of this strategy. Subgroups focused on education, research and decarbonisation report to the Advisory Group and support the delivery of the strategy’s objectives.
