Reducing the environmental and social impact of how and where we invest and purchase.

Through both our investments and our procurement we can choose not to support companies that are harmful to the environment and society, and to actively invest in those that commit to exercising a positive impact.

Across the University, we purchase a wide range of goods and services, from office stationery to large construction projects. Managing procurement emissions not only cuts carbon but also reduces waste through circular economy principles and drives social value, including supporting small and social enterprises and tackling modern slavery.

Our Socially Responsible Procurement Policy sets out our commitments to responsible purchasing. This includes purchasing from local and small and medium enterprises, asking suppliers to perform contracts in accordance with our aims and targets, and ensuring employment practices are beneficial to the wellbeing and welfare of our staff. Procurement policies are regularly updated to ensure they comply with relevant legislation and support the university's work to reduce its negative impacts and maximise its positive impact.

We also believe that the successful management of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues is fundamental to creating value for investors.
