Book Launch: Playing the Villain - 16 October 2019
Please note that this event has passed.
The Portrayal and Punishment of Terrorists in Western Media (Playing the Villain) (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019) explores the ideological and social functions of media representations of terrorists. Developing a theory of scapegoating related to narrative closure, as well as an integrated, genealogical method of intervisuality, the book proposes a new way of thinking about how political images achieve power and influence the public.
At this event Prof. Vivienne Jabri will discuss with Dr Christiana Spens the contributions made in this book.
Dr. Christiana Spens is an academic based in Glasgow, working across International Relations, visual art and creative writing. She is involved in the research project Truth Tellers, developing an applied inter-visual method that fuses theory and artistic practice to explore the intricacies of recent traumatic political events.
