Speaker: Tobias Ellwood
By almost every measure, our world is becoming more dangerous. The international order that has underpinned our security for eight decades is fracturing. America is retreating, adversarial states are aligning and rearming, and the boundaries between peace and war are increasingly blurred. The parallels with 1937 are uncomfortable.
How did we get here? Where is this heading? And, most importantly, what can we do about it?
Ten Steps to Prevent World War Three examines the worrying trajectory we are now on – towards a world where conflict is no longer confined to conventional battlefields, but fought across multiple domains: land, sea, air, space, cyber, technology, economics and information.
But this is not simply a warning. It is a call to action.
The author is suggesting that “We must update our global architecture. Understand our adversaries. Learn the lessons of history. Prepare for the new battlefields. Rebuild our alliances. Strengthen our hard power. Improve national resilience. Repair our own democracies. Create the diplomatic off-ramps that prevent escalation. And finally, rekindle statecraft – and rediscover the courage to lead.”
Timely, thought-provoking and practical, this book is a reality check on how close we may be drifting towards a wider conflict – and a roadmap for how we step back from it.
