In 2018, discussion on how environmental law and policy are affected by political changes is at the forefront of the research agenda in both Brazil and the UK. Whereas the implications of Brexit on the UK domestic environmental legislation remain uncertain, a set of controversial proposals for regulatory changes in environmental protection is under debate in Brazil. Also, the Brazilian 1988 Constitution completes 30 years. This offers opportunity to reflect upon the benefits and difficulties of the constitutionalisation of a fundamental right to a healthy environment.
The seminar also aims to provide space for showcasing research on environmental law being carried out in Brazil, as well as to promote networking opportunities for future collaboration between Brazilian and UK research institutions.
