This is the inaugural seminar in a series curated by Guildhall and King’s on Creative Digital Cultures, in which academics, practice-based researchers, and creative practitioners share their projects, approaches, and research across disciplines.

The event, chaired by Professor Andy Lavender (Guildhall), will feature short talks as follows:

  • Professor Sarah Atkinson (King’s College London), will present on some of the findings and outcomes of her AHRC Research, Development & Engagement Fellowship project: GLoW 3.0 including an artist programme and the GLOW: Illuminating Innovation exhibition which launches on International Women’s Day 2024.

  • Dan Shorten, Creative Director of Guildhall Live Events, will present an overview of his practice that explores the relationship between traditional performing arts and digital design and production processes, aiming to explore how emerging technologies like volumetric capture, XR and AI can not only preserve but elevate traditional art forms with new approaches to creativity and audience engagement. He will discuss his project exploring digitally-driven reimaginings of classical formats including OrchestRAM and OpeRAVE.

  • Guildhall School’s Recording & AV Department is working in partnership with The F-List, a charity organisation that promotes gender equality within the music industry, to deliver a project for London-based female and gender-diverse music professionals. The project aims to upskill participating music professionals in creative technologies, such as mixing and mastering, to champion their career progression in a historically male-dominated industry. Motivated by current movements towards equality, diversity and inclusion, Annie Urquhart from Recording & AV will shine a spotlight on the gender imbalance that permeates the music industry. This project is supported by the Regional Innovation Fund.

This event also provides the opportunity to visit the GLOW: Illuminating Innovation exhibition curated by Sarah Atkinson and to experience the Second Nature immersive installation.
