Discover Engineering for Teachers 2026

04JunTwo happy girls exploring a robotic hand

Join us for ‘Discover Engineering for Teachers’, a webinar series that will explore this fascinating, multidisciplinary field. You’ll get the chance to really appreciate what engineering is and how to bring this exciting topic into the classroom, as well as exploring the opportunities your students could unlock by studying it at university.

Applications are now open. Register for this event here by Monday 1 June.

Engineering is not often taught at school, but brings together many different subjects: maths, physics and chemistry are vital for understanding the nature of materials and how to transform them, computing and design technology feed into the practical aspects of making, and biology informs sustainable and healthcare engineering. These diverse topics are united through the engineer’s approach of creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving. As such, many students studying A level STEM subjects could go on to study engineering at university but may have little information about what it actually entails.

This is where you can help! You will leave these sessions equipped with the knowledge and understanding to bring this amazing subject to life, and to support any budding engineers in your school to see what a future in this sector could be like.

This free webinar series consists of three after-school sessions, each focusing on different aspects. You are welcome to attend any or all of the sessions.

Thursday 4 June – Discover different engineering applications

This session will feature short talks showcasing research at King’s and different engineering applications, followed by a Q&A. This is a great opportunity to dive into the broad field of engineering and understand how it can connect with a wide range of interests.

Thursday 11 June – Transitioning from School

This session will provide an overview of different paths that can lead to a career in engineering. We will then showcase the innovative education approach followed by King’s in our General Engineering and Electronic Engineering courses. The session will end with a Q&A panel with current engineering undergraduate students who will share their experience and motivations for studying engineering, what the transition from school was like, and what they enjoy most about their current studies.

Thursday 18 June – Hands-on Engineering

This will be a hands-on session focusing on discovering engineering in practice. You will be engaging an engineering design activity based on simple materials provided by us and posted out to you. The session will end with a presentation about how to get started with making in school and a list of resources and ideas of how you can bring engineering ideas into the classroom.

The sessions will all take place from 17:30-18:45 on Zoom. The webinars are open to secondary school teachers, careers advisors, and other school staff who are teaching or advising students in the UK.

You will be able to select which sessions you would like to attend, based on your interests, although the Hands-on Engineering session will be limited to 50 participants. If this session is over-subscribed, we will prioritise places to STEM teachers at schools that meet the following criteria:

• state secondary school or college
• non-selective secondary school, or sixth form college
• higher proportion of students eligible for Free School Meals

This event will be hosted by academic staff and students from the Department of Engineering and the School of Education, Communication & Society.

Applications are now open. Register for this event here by Monday 1 June. If you register for the Hands-on Engineering session, we will confirm whether your application was successful by Monday June 8.
