Speaker:  Fabio Lopes 

Under the new government in Brazil the Congress has taken on an increasingly prominent role in policy-making. In his talk, Fabio Lopes will offer an insider's view of how the institutions, procedures, and personalities in the Congress shape the policy-making process.

 

Fabio Lopes graduated from the University of Brasilia in 1998 with a BA in Foreign Affairs and in 2006 with a BSc in Chemistry. He then did post-graduate work in Parliamentary Studies in 2009 at the Brazilian Camara, the lower house of the National Congress. From 2002 to 2019, Fabio has worked as civil servant in the Brazilian Camara advising different political parties in legislative procedure, political scenarios analysis and policy strategy. He also teaches and researches these subjects in the Camara's post-graduate school.

Fabio is now Head of Domestic Politics at the British Embassy in Brasilia, writing reports on Brazilian politics and promoting high-level political engagement between the UK and the Brazilian executive, Congress, judiciary and state governments.
