Please join us for an afternoon celebration of Greek Tragedy from Cuba, in partnership with the London-based theatre collective Out of the Wings, at King’s College London on Friday 31 May, 2.30pm-7pm.

We will be presenting dramatized readings of two Cuban adaptations of Greek tragedy never before translated into English:

  • The Bacchae (Bacantes) by Flora Lauten and Raquel Carrió in a new translation by Rachel Toogood
  • Antígona by Yerandy Fleites in a new translation by Cristina Pérez-Díaz

Both readings are directed by Almiro Andrade, featuring actors Pepa Duarte, Alvaro Flores, Cinthia Lilen, Sergio Maggiolo, Lucy Phelps, and Federico Trujillo.

The readings will begin at 3pm, but tea and coffee will be served from 2.30pm. A reception will follow the readings at 6pm.

The event will take place at Bush House SE 1.01, 30 Aldwych London WC2B 4BG.

Registration is required for this free public event, and tickets will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Greek Tragedy from Cuba is generously supported by the British Academy and the Society for Classical Studies 'Ancient Worlds: Modern Communities’ Initiative.
