Before and Beyond Covid: The effects of Covid on Personal Assistants and Individual Employers across Greater Manchester

Katherine McDermott - William Case Advocacy: Your Support Matters.

The adult social care system was already broken before the pandemic. Low pay, under representation and lack of choice were issues that disabled people have been campaigning against for a long time and were not unique to the time we were living in. This presentation by Your Support Matters will look at the findings of our report and some possible suggestions for a positive way forward for adult social care.

Preventing Incontinence Associated Dermatitis – an overview of current research

Dr Sue Woodward & Sangeeta Sooriah - Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care, King's College London.

Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) is skin damage caused by repeated contact with urine, faeces or both. It causes pain, discomfort, infections and pressure sores. It may affect as many as 51% of people with incontinence living at home and up to 30% in nursing and residential care, however there are no specific guidelines for IAD management. The PREVENT-IAD project aims to create genuine changes in the way IAD is prevented and treated. This presentation will explain how we are achieving this by co-designing an online IAD care package for people to follow and provide this care. We will then test the intervention across 4 care homes and 2 home care agencies in London and Southampton.
