How We Argue: About Immigration

Please join us for ‘How We Argue: About Immigration’ – the first in a series of discussions, hosted by the Global Cultures Institute, which tackle contentious matters at the centre of public life and public debate, and explore how arguments take shape, unfold, intensify and break down.
The discussion will be chaired by Professor Bobby Duffy, the Director of the King’s Policy Institute, and will feature three distinguished speakers with a range a diverse views and a wealth of experience in political journalism, think tanks, and public policy development.
About the speakers
Miranda Green (Deputy Opinion Editor, Financial Times)
Miranda is Deputy Opinion Editor at the Financial Times. She has served as the paper’s UK and world news editor, and has also been the paper’s education and political correspondent. She helped found The Day to assist schools teaching current affairs to teenagers, and worked for the Liberal Democrat party in the House of Commons from 1995 to 2000.
David Goodhart (Head of Demography, Immigration, and Integration Unit, Policy Exchange)
David is the founding editor of Prospect magazine. He is currently head of the Demography, Immigration and Integration Unit at the think tank Policy Exchange, and was previously director of the think tank Demos. His book The British Dream: Successes and Failures of Post-War Immigration (2013) was runner-up for the Orwell Prize in 2014. His most recent book is The Care Dilemma: Caring Enough in the Age of Sex Equality, published by Forum.
Sunder Katwala (Director, British Future)
Sunder is the Director of British Future. He has previously worked as a journalist. He was general secretary of the Fabian Society thinktank from 2003 to 2011, and was previously a leader writer and internet editor at the Observer, a research director of the Foreign Policy Centre and commissioning editor for politics and economics at the publisher Macmillan. Sunder is the author of How to be a Patriot: Why Love of Country can End our Very British Culture War, published by Harper North.
