Speaker: Dr Annalisa Rizza, Advanced Workflow Specialist, Widefield Microscopy Life Science – Leica Microsystems

This Imaging Bites seminar will explore 3D imaging with Mica. Imaging 3D biology helps researchers to investigate how cells behave and function in their physiological 3D environments and to understand how molecules are organised in organelles. 3D imaging poses unique challenges such as (a) large sample volumes, (b) out of focus blur, (c) the difficulty of keeping cells alive during longer-term imaging experiments and/or the necessity to prevent physical damage to delicate structures. All these factors can impact the quality and interpretation of the acquired images. Leica Microsystems have developed a range of innovative imaging solutions and workflows that can help overcome many of the challenges of imaging 3D cultures. Using Mica system, we will demonstrate how the 3D imaging process can be simplified and the image quality enhanced. We will also show how in-depth exploration makes it possible to understand the biological complexities of these remarkable cellular models.
