Each year, the King’s Global Institute for Women’s Leadership celebrates the feminist contribution of Brenda Trenowden and awards an essay prize in her name.
This year, in Brenda’s honour, GIWL will host a timely discussion on inclusive growth and how it could power the UK through its productivity and growth challenges. From her own life experience, Brenda understood how important it was that everyone benefitted from economic opportunity.
With growth now at the top of the political agenda, this event asks: how do we ensure that economic progress benefits everyone, not just the few? Drawing on the latest research (including the 2025 Lovelace Report) and insights from technology and AI, our expert panel will explore the barriers to women’s full economic participation, and the systemic, policy, and workplace shifts needed to harness innovation for inclusive growth.
The discussion will focus on the tech sector – a critical driver of productivity and innovation, but one where women remain underrepresented. Drawing on the latest research (including the 2025 Lovelace Report), as well as insights into skills, AI, and the future of work, our expert panel will ask: how inclusive will tech-led growth really be, and what systemic, policy, and workplace shifts are needed to ensure women can fully participate in and benefit from it?
We are delighted to welcome:
- Julia Gillard, former Prime Minister of Australia and Chair of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership
- Claudia Harris, CEO of Makers, championing skills, tech, and the potential of AI for inclusion
- Vanessa Vallely OBE, founder of WeAreTheCity and author of the Lovelace Report 2025 on women in technology
The discussion will be chaired by Heejung Chung, Director of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership, King’s College London.
Celebrating the Brenda Trenowden Feminist Analysis Essay Prize
The event will also celebrate the winners of the Brenda Trenowden Feminist Analysis Essay Prize, an annual award offered by GIWL in partnership with the Gender Studies Network and Feminist Perspectives.
Renamed in tribute to Brenda Trenowden’s pioneering work, the prize recognises outstanding feminist research and analysis by King’s College London students. The winning essays will be published in a special collection, available at the event.
