Mahmood Kooria (Leiden University)

Mahmood Kooria is a researcher at Leiden University (the Netherlands) and a visiting faculty of History at Ashoka University (India). Previously he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Dutch Institute in Morocco (NIMAR), Rabat; the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) and the African Studies Centre (ASC), Leiden. His recent publications include Islamic Law in Circulation: Shāfiʿī Texts across the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean (Cambridge University Press, 2022) and Islamic Law in the Indian Ocean: Ideas, Texts and Practices, co-edited with Sanne Ravensbergen (Routledge, 2022).
