King’s Experts Series: The Future of Higher Education

Online

30OctThe King's Experts Series Event Poster

The award-winning King’s Experts Series is back! To kick off our 2025-6 series, we’re bringing King’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Shitij Kapur, together with a panel of world-renowned academic voices to share their perspective on the future of higher education on Thursday 30 October - 6pm to 7.15pm (UK Time).

King's College London has risen to 31st best university in the world and 5th in the UK, in the QS World University rankings 2025. Amid concerns that UK universities are on an unsustainable path, this prestigious ranking recognises our institution’s outstanding commitment to education, research and innovation.

The sector is facing increasingly pressing challenges. AI is reshaping education at an extraordinary pace. The real-terms value of tuition fees is declining, creating financial pressure. Meanwhile, 31% of the UK public believe that a university degree is not worth the time and money, despite evidence that 92% of recent graduates feel that it was.

Our speakers will discuss:

  • The role universities must play in shaping a more resilient and inclusive society.
  • Public perception and the real economic value of universities.
  • The impact of AI on graduate jobs, exploring King’s strategic approach to AI in education.

Join us for this rare opportunity to hear from some of the UK’s most influential academic voices.

Chaired by:

  • Jane Corbin, King’s alum and award-winning journalist

The panel:

  • Professor Shitij Kapur, Vice-Chancellor and President of King’s College London, and Chair of London Higher
  • Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, King’s alum, Deputy Chair of the Industrial Strategy Advisory Council and former President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester
