We are very sorry to inform you the performance of the annual Latin play at King's College London has been cancelled. We hope to set a new date for the performance later in 2020.
Performed in the original Latin (with English surtitles)
Diebus illis interroganti quid esset rerum omnium praestantissimum, respondissem “pronuntatio, pronuntatio, pronuntatio.” Idem nunc quaerenti similiter dicerem “Lydia, Lydia, Lydia.”
(In those days, when I was asked what was the most important thing in the world, I used to answer: “Pronunciation, Pronunciation, Pronunciation”. If someone asked me now, I would say “Lydia, Lydia, Lydia”).
Pedantius the pedant is in love. Will his grammatical learning, and the opaque syllogisms of his friend Dromodotus, the philosopher, be enough to win the heart of the beautiful Lydia? Or will she escape his dusty clutches, with the help of her true love, the penniless Crobolus, and his crafty accomplices?
First produced at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1581, Pedantius is a riotous satire of the half-learned buffoons, cynical students, and impoverished rascals who congregated around early modern universities. Any resemblance to real pedants, past or present, is purely coincidental …
All are welcome - No reservations needed - Admission free (suggested donation: £5).
