The Africa Research Forum 2023

What kind of doctoral research on, in and with Africa takes place at King’s? How do King’s students critically reflect on the benefits and challenges of research in the continent? The Africa Research Group hosts an annual PhD forum to answer these questions and more with a showcase of some of the latest doctoral work on Africa from across the College.

As part of Africa Week 2023, the event features presentations by King's College London students introducing their PhD research, followed by feedback from academic staff and questions and answers with the audience. This event is free and open to all.

• Jonathan Egid (PhD Candidate in the KCL Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures) - The Hatäta Zär’a Ya‛ǝqob controversy: authorship, implications and the historiography of philosophy
• Maísa Edwards (Joint International Relations PhD Candidate, King's College London and University of São Paulo) - Brazil and the Zone of Peace and Cooperation of the South Atlantic (ZOPACAS): An analysis of the evolution of Brazilian diplomatic and defence relations in the South Atlantic (1986 – 2013)
• Elizabeth Gardner (PhD Candidate in the KCL Department of Defence Studies) - The Libyan Arab Force: An indigenous Senussi volunteer force in North Africa from 1940-1943.
