The storms are raging. The world is on the brink. While governments look away, one old and forgotten god decides to do something about it.

Dramatising the uproarious return of the god Dionysus to his homeland, Euripides’ Bacchae is one of the masterpieces of world theatre. Now, for the first time ever, it is performed in combination with Aristophanes’ comic tour-de-force Frogs to create a cautionary tale about the greatest issue of our age: the climate emergency.

The Greek Play at King’s College London has a tradition of excellence stretching back to the 1950s. Come see it reinvigorated for the 21st century in a performance that combines ancient Greek and English, demonstrating the essential role the literary past has in the world of tomorrow.

Dionysus in the Underworld unites age-old themes of threatened extinction, rebellion, and the power of art to change the future.

Professor Edith Hall, author of the best-selling book Introducing the Ancient Greeks
