Does thinking about the climate crisis make you want to scream? Then get loud with our gig theatre workshop which invites you to identify your climate anxieties and exorcise them through music in a safe and welcoming environment.
This activity is facilitated by award-winning eco-theatre company Bradán. There will be a mix of discussion-based group work on the effects of the current crisis on young people and finding ways of expressing these issues through sound. You will be given prompts for generating words and images, and the professional musician and theatre-maker facilitators will be on hand to support your process.
Please bring along any instruments, poetry, or artwork to make this a truly collaborative experience.
The aim is not to necessarily present completed songs by the end of the workshop but to converse and share ideas, use prompts from our company for creating words and imagery, and use these to develop soundscapes. Instruments such as guitars, tin whistles, keyboard, and sound altering equipment/loop pedals will be provided and demonstrated by the Bradán team.
About Bradán Theatre
Bradán is an eco-theatre company specialising in gig theatre, winner of the Staging Change x VAULT Award (2022) and Axis Green Arts Award. Bradán was founded by Kate Bauer and James Ireland, who met in Dublin on a theatre undergrad in 2012. We are queer theatremakers from a generation young enough to know that capitalism and the climate catastrophe has taken our futures. But we know no-one wants to sit through another grim climate show. Our vision for creating art focuses on audience experience. We create work that energises, that's fun, that's wild, and that gives back. We create work for the future. We might believe the only reason to create work is to change the world before it’s too late, but that doesn't mean it can't also be a great night out.
Our production of My Lover Was a Salmon in the Climate Apocalypse will be performed at VAULT Festival 2023, 28 February – 5 March. Further information can be found here. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook @bradantheatre
