Over 210 people attended today’s webinar, part of the Homelessness series from HSCWRU at King's, which considered Trauma-sensitive assessment practices with the 'Your Story' approach, which promotes culture change between individuals and services so ways of working are more relational, human and power-balanced. Attendees came from across England and as far afield as the Czech Republic.

Slides from the session.

The speakers were Katarzyna ‘Katy’ Krysiak and Emma Stevens, both Project Officers in Plymouth City Council, working with the Changing Futures Plymouth Programme, and Sarah, a ‘Your Story’ Lived Experience participant.

Some remarks from attendees following the webinar:

Thank you so much Sarah. As someone with lived experience of homelessness and substance abuse, I know how you feel. Thank you for doing this work.

Absolutely fantastic piece of work. Wonderful to hear from you. Thank you all for the presentation and to King’s College London for setting this up.

Just to say how much I appreciate the webinar series – invaluable learning. Thank you for putting them on!

This webinar will explore the 'Your Story' project, which aims to promote culture change within assessment practice, so ways of working between individuals and services are more relational, human, power-balanced, and trauma-informed.

Through co-production methods, a tool has been developed by people with lived experience to enable people experiencing multiple disadvantage to:

  • Take control of their information when using services
  • Share their story in a way that matters to them
  • Reduce the need to repeat their story and risk re-traumatisation.

The webinar will be co-led by:

Katarzyna "Katy" Krysiak, Project Officer in Plymouth City Council, working with the Changing Futures Plymouth Programme, has eight years of experience in housing/homelessness, and recently expanded her focus to address multiple disadvantage and system change.

Emma Stevens, Project Officer working in the Changing Futures Plymouth Programme, has a strong interest in understanding systems of oppression and privilege, and how those with lived experience of disadvantage can guide systems-change.
