Understanding translation regulation at the host-pathogen interface
Speaker: Dr Trevor Sweeney, University of Cambridge
Host: Professor Stuart Neil
RNA structure and modification are key determinants of host-pathogen interactions. We use biochemical and molecular biology techniques to probe the mechanistic basis of how viruses usurp the host translation machinery and how the cell tries to prevent them from doing so. We previously identified a novel mechanism of translational control imposed by the IFIT family of interferon-stimulated genes. Our recent work has now established how the interaction between IFIT family members can modulate their antiviral activity.
