Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) are increasingly being used to test what works in children's social care and child protection. These rigorous methods can help us understand which interventions genuinely improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families, and ensure limited resources are directed where they'll have the greatest impact.

This new book brings together leading experts to examine how RCTs can be applied in this sensitive and complex field. Through detailed case studies, it demonstrates both the transformative potential of experimental methods and the practical challenges of implementing them when working with children and families in crisis. The book also considers the case against RCTs from both a practical and academic perspective, and shows which alternative can be used and when.

At this event, we'll be discussing the key insights from the book and exploring how experimental methods can be better integrated into children's social care to improve outcomes for those who need support most.
