Speaker: Professor Mats Berdal

Mats Berdal is Professor of Security and Development in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London, where he is also the Programme Director for the MA in Conflict, Security and Development and Director of the Conflict, Security and Development Research Programme (CSDRG). He joined the department in 2003, having previously been Director of Studies at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London from 2000 to 2003. Recent publications included “What are the limits to the use of force in UN Peacekeeping?” in Cedric de Coning and Mateja Peter (eds.), United Nations Peace Operations in a Changing Global Order (Palgrave/Macmillan, 2019) and “NATO’s Landscape of the Mind: Stabilisation and Statebuilding in Afghanistan”, Ethnopolitics  (2019).
