​The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC) is based in the heart of central and south London. It includes the Cicely Saunders Institute for Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation, the premier Institute for Palliative Care, bringing together clinical, research and education teams.

​Our applied clinical and health multidisciplinary research transforms therapies, the healthcare experience and outcomes for patients and those important to them, wherever they are cared for. Our award-winning NMPC education programmes span pre-registration nursing and midwifery, and multidisciplinary post-graduate taught and research programmes.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Programme Officer in the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care’s Research Support Office. The post holder will provide high-quality administrative support and guidance across the Faculty’s postgraduate research programmes and manage incoming enquiries and expressions of interest from prospective students.

Working as part of a busy professional services team, the successful applicant will be expected to work flexibly and take responsibility for their own time management and performance. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the smooth delivery of our postgraduate research programmes and supporting both our students and academics. The key responsibilities for this position include managing routine enquiries, assisting with organising student events (such as the annual postgraduate research conference as well as student inductions), communicating confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, and supporting the Research Support Office.

This role would suit a motivated individual who is keen to commence or further their career in Higher Education administration within a supportive and collaborative environment.

The post will report to, and work closely with, the Senior Programmes Officer (PGR).

This is a part-time post (0.5 FTE), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 December 2027. 

Professional services staff currently work on a hybrid basis, with time split between on‑site working at the Waterloo campus and remote working.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft documents and correspondence  
  2. Excellent organisation and time management skills  
  3. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to work on new systems  
  4. Methodical, detail oriented and flexible in an approach to work, maintaining a high level of accuracy  
  5. Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and assured manner  
  6. Proactive with the ability to work independently as well as delivering within a team  
  7. Customer service oriented, with experience handling complaints and a commitment to personal accountability and continuous improvement  
  8. Comfortable with adapting to change, driving own professional development   

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience in the use of databases and/or student records systems (such as SITS) 
  2. Prior experience of working in a customer facing environment 
  3. Experience of using virtual learning environments
