About us

The Department of Chemistry is a friendly and vibrant department within the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences. We are one of five academic departments in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences.  All departments have a wide-ranging portfolio of established taught programmes and are highly rated in research activities.   

The Department of Chemistry is supported by an experienced professional services team, working in partnership with academic colleagues, as well as faculty and central directorates. 

About the role

We are looking to recruit a Programme Officer to join our team. The Programme Officer is responsible for essential work contributing to the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  They will support students and academic staff as the first point of contact for queries, whether face-to-face, via phone or electronic media. The role is responsible for essential work to support the delivery of our programmes and for ensuring that student lifecycle activities run smoothly. With support to develop a working knowledge of regulations, the Programme Officer is a valued and trusted member of a hard-working and friendly team and will have a keen eye for accuracy and detail.

The role will be based at the Waterloo campus, in the heart of Central London. Professional services staff are currently working on a hybrid basis, meaning the role holders will spend part of their working week on campus and the remainder working remotely. 

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: 

Essential criteria

1.      Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft documents and correspondence

2.      Strong numeracy skills and ability to analyse complex numerical data 

3.      Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to work on new systems 

4.      Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines  

5.      Ability to work independently and take initiative 

6.      Ability to work as part of a team with a commitment to personal accountability and continuous improvement 

7.      Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy at all times 

8.      Customer service focused, with the ability to work with students and a broad range of colleagues in a professional and assured manner  

Desirable criteria

1.      Experience in the use of databases, student records systems (such as SITS) and virtual learning environments (such as Moodle) 

2.      Prior experience of working in a customer facing environment   

3.      Degree level or equivalent qualification or experience
