COVID restrictions are easing

Here’s what the changes mean for you

Following the UK Government’s announcement last week, it is great to see that some of the restrictions will continue to be eased from Monday 17 May. We know that many of you want to spend more time on campus and with your friends, so we want to let you know what these changes mean for you.

Heading to campus

We want you to be able to enjoy being on campus as much as possible, and that means looking out for each other. Some restrictions are lifting, but please keep doing the basics. Maintain a safe distance from others, wear a face covering unless exempt and wash or sanitise your hands regularly.

COVID testing: 'It's super easy, it doesn't hurt and it's free'

We also ask that you take regular COVID-19 tests if you’re coming to campus or living in a residence and don’t have coronavirus symptoms. Testing is quick, doesn’t hurt and is entirely free. There are hubs at every campus and residence and having the recommended two tests a week only takes about 30 minutes.

What’s open on campus

Libraries, study spaces and gyms are open again, though you’ll still need to pre-book for the time being. Find out more about them, King’s Food venues and the KCLSU union shop in our roundup.

Residences

The good news is that our indoor common areas are reopening for you to use. However, there are still some restrictions in place:

  • A maximum two households can now meet in your flats.
  • Remember to keep a safe distance from those not in your household and wear a face covering unless you are exempt.
  • Please keep your ID card with you if you are visiting another flat or using the common areas. You will need to show this if one of the residences team asks to see it.

Visitors

Unfortunately, we’re still not quite ready for visitors and overnight guests in residences, but we will keep this under review. We know this is disappointing but with safe distancing restrictions still in place, we need to manage the number of people in residences.

Getting out into London

Those of you keen to experience London life will be pleased to know that venues are beginning to reopen. Attractions such as cinemas, museums, bars, cafes and restaurants and outdoor events like live performances and sporting events will once again be taking place. Groups of up to 30 people can meet in outdoor settings such as parks, outdoor attractions and outdoor hospitality venues.
