We are very sorry to report the death of our colleague, Dr Nicola Bonini, Reader in Physics.

Nicola had been at King’s since 2011 after prestigious postdoctoral appointments at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Oxford. His research focused on computational condensed matter physics.

The head of the Theory & Stimulation of Condensed Matter research group, Dr Joe Bhaseen, paid tribute:

"Nicola was an esteemed member of the group and the department. He brought leading expertise in the computational modelling of electrical and thermal transport, with applications to nanoscale devices and graphene. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, including his former students, postdocs, friends, colleagues, and family. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle and generous mentor and an excellent scientist."
