The new King’s honorary doctors are:

Professor Dame Carol Black FRCP FMedSci

Professor Dame Carol Black is a highly distinguished physician and advisor to government on health and work, who is Principal of Newnham College, Cambridge. Her achievements include those as the UK’s leading expert on the rheumatological disease scleroderma; as Medical Director of the Royal Free Hospital; as former President of the Royal College of Physicians, and as Chair of the UK Health Honours Committee from 2006 to 2009.

Irina Bokova

Irina Bokova is the tenth Director-General of UNESCO. She is the first woman and the first Eastern European to lead the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. In this role she is actively engaged in international efforts to advance quality education for all, gender equality and the protection of the world’s cultural heritage. She spearheads global awareness to counter youth radicalisation and prevent violent extremism, hate speech and discrimination, starting with action through education.  

Professor Peter Sarnak FRS

Professor Sarnak is a mathematician with far-reaching vision that has opened up many new fields of research. He is Eugene Higgins Professor at Princeton, and Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study there. As an analytic number theorist, he studies the Riemann zeta function that encodes all the mysteries of prime numbers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society; a Member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa.

A mini-conference to celebrate the award to Professor Sarnak was held at Goodenough College, London WC1, on 24 October, and Professor Sarnak delivered a colloquium at that event and a research seminar at King’s on 26 October.
