Professor Manthorpe in conversation at the Jermyn Street Theatre

Distinguished playwright Peter Gill has a new play at London’s Jermyn Street Theatre

A bridge in a curious bluish light

Peter Gill's new play, Something in the Air, is a moving account of the memories and events shared by two male care home residents who describe ‘coming out’ as gay in their youth. The drama also features elements of their relationships with family members. As part of the theatre’s engagement with its audiences, an ‘In Conversation’ event was held prior to the performance on 26 October with Jill Manthorpe on a panel that included representatives from Age UK, the Centre for Better Ageing and the Royal College of Art. The panel and audience had a lively discussion on ageism, drawing on a wide range of illustrations of, and challenges to, this pervasive practice.
