The annual list identifies global researchers who have demonstrated exceptional influence in their chosen field or fields – reflected through the publication of multiple papers ranking in the top 1% by citations for their field and year. 2020 marks the third time that Hak-Keung has received this accolade, having been named as Highly Cited Researcher under the category of ‘engineering’ and ‘cross-field’ in 2019 and 2018 respectively.
At King’s, Hak-Keung’s research interests include fuzzy control, computational intelligence and machine learning. He has authored and co-authored over 370 publications on these topics, which have attracted over 12,000 citations on Google Scholar. Hak-Keung has pioneered the creation of two research sub-fields – membership-function-dependent analysis, and interval type-2 fuzzy control systems under the fuzzy-model-based control framework. Within them, he has initiated novel concepts and analysis techniques which have served to enable further developments by breaking through long-existing challenges in the field, including analysis and design limitations.
On receipt of this accolade, Hak-Keung commented;
I was very pleased to be named as a Highly Cited Researcher in 2020. This continued recognition is a great encouragement for me and my team to keep pushing the research frontier and create new knowledge.– Dr Hak-Keung Lam
