King's Philosophy research ranked 6th in the UK in REF2021 Power Rankings

The Department of Philosophy has been ranked sixth in the UK in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) Power Rankings results out today.

Philosophy at King’s was ranked 6th in the UK in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) Power Rankings and 1st in the country for Research Environment and Support. 64 per cent of the research was valued as being ‘world leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*).

The Department is ranked in the top ten departments world-wide for four consecutive years in the QS World University Rankings.

The REF is carried out approximately every six-seven years to assess the quality of research across UK universities, show the quality and output of research on a domestic and global stage and show the impact research has on the academic environment and our society – highlighting its real-world benefits.

Philosophy submitted 29.5 FTE staff (32 individuals), 80 outputs (including reserves for those which were double weighted) and 3 Impact case studies.
