King's staff and students shine at IADR
Staff and students from King’s College London have been recognised at the latest International Association for Dental Research (IADR) General Session, held in Barcelona Spain in June this year.

The General Session featured oral and poster presentations, Hands-on Workshops, Lunch & Learning Sessions, Keynote Addresses, and Symposia presented by experts from all over the world, including key academics and students from the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences at King’s College London.
Awards included:
- Hui Lynn Ooi placed first in the Haleon-Mineralised Tissue Research Prize for her study on “Characteristion of the Mechanical Response of the Eroded Enamel Sub-surface".
- John Makanjuloa, clinical dentistry student received Highly Commended in the Haleon-Mineralised Tissue Research Prize for the BSODR / IADR Annual Scientific Meeting
- Emily Lu – ODRT Awards - Haleon Award

Presentations made by our colleagues included:
- Aina Njwa Mohd Khairuddin received the 2025 IADR Newell W. Johnson Travel Award, which gave her the opportunity to present her research at the recent 2025 IADR General Session in Barcelona.
- Mapping Host-Microbiome Crosstalk in Oral Health and Infective Endocarditis, by V. Sousa, J.L. Falconer, R. Rajani, Y. Ge
- Microbial and Metabolic Signatures in Peri-Implantitis: Insights from Clinical, Imaging, and Multi-Omics Analyses, by M. Yao, J.L. Falconer, J. Howard, A. King, J. Garnet, V. Sousa
- Enhancing Supportive Periodontal and Peri-Implant Care Through Interactive International Collaboration, by V. Sousa, D. Betancur, J.L. Falconer, M. Yao, Y. Ge
- Yuchen Zhang presented on "Early-Stage Succession of Peri-implant Microbiome – A Longitudinal Metagenomic Study" .
- Dr Sadia Niazi was a keynote speaker and gave a lecture at the IADR Pulp Biology and Regeneration Satellite symposium in Madrid (July 1) - which was right after IADR general session.

Other notable activities:
Professor Jenny Gallager MBE has now taken up the President-Elect role following the meeting in Barcelona. She will commence the Presidental position following the IADR meeting in San Diego in March 2026.
Professor Avijit Banerjee was elected President of the British Society of Oral & Dental Research (BSODR).
The DentAlliance, the global strategic partnership of which King’s is a key member, held a symposium on Research and Innovation. Professor Abigail Tucker chaired the event, which included a presentation from Professor Luigi Nibali.
Dr Sadia Niazi chaired a lecture at a Symposium on "Host-Microbiome mechanistic Interactions Linking Apical Periodontitis with Systemic Health". The event was sponsored by IADR Women in Science Network and Pulp Biology and Regeneration Group.
