King’s Sport has been recognised on a national level, being the only university that has been shortlisted for both BUCs & UKActive Awards this year.

These nominations demonstrate King’s Sport’s dedication to providing a world-class experience not only for our students & staff but for the wider community.

Further supporting the King’s 2029 Strategic Vision to create an inclusive environment and take a holistic approach for all King’s Sport services.

Bucs KS 2021

The first nomination for Digital Engagement from British Universities & Colleges Sport Awards 2021, recognises a sports department or institution that have been innovative in the ways that they have supported their students & staff digitally.

King’s Sport has been shortlisted due to it’s engaging digital events, notably the Department Energisers. Which are short sessions that encourage departments within King’s to take a moment from their day-to-day tasks to help aid their wellbeing.

Types of sessions the Energisers cover include, seated stretches, mindful movements, pulse raisers and meditation.

It was a great session, actually fun. I felt truly energized & made the meeting afterwards much more productive. It inspired me to try to stretch more often during the day as now I know the movements to do

Department Energisers has hosted over 130 sessions to over 60 departments within King’s a month of launching, this resulted in a feedback score of 9.5/10. Department Energisers has allowed King’s Sport to develop relationships with faculties and professional services while also demonstrating the positive impact of holistic practices on wellbeing.

We also are developing our relationships with faculties to build partnerships in education, to develop research and strengthen links with our mental health services and health centre. All to integrate a holistic model of sport, activity, and wellness.

The shortlist also recognises the impact of King’s Move app a free platform for the King’s community that allows them to earn points when they track their physical activity. In turn, points can then be exchanged for rewards such as coffees, King’s merchandise and online discounts.

King’s Move app is a great motivational addition – collecting points just works on me! Especially when I noticed how running is rewarded compared to just walking, the app had certainly made me go for that 10k run on more than one occasion.

UKActive - KS 2021

The second nomination from UKActive acknowledges the Move Your Mind programme for its award of Delivering Business Continuity and Success during Covid19. The Move Your Mind programme consists of physical activity classes online, exclusive events and a one to one coaching programme.

Since its inception the Move Your Mind programme has recorded over 100,000+ engagements, as well as delivering over 2 million minutes of activity on Zoom to over 3,000 users in over six months. The programme also engaged with over 40+ other institutions and raised over £2,600 for NHS Hero’s during the first six months of the pandemic.

The programme has been absolutely essential to maintain some physical activity & promote wellbeing during the months in lockdown. I don’t know how I would have coped without it.
