New Head of Department for Mathematics

Professor Reimer Kühn has been appointed as Head of the Department of Mathematics from 1 August, taking over from Professor Simon Salamon.

Professor Kühn is a member of the Disordered Systems group. He joined King’s College London in 2003.

Reimer received a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Kiel University in 1987. He held post-doctoral and lecturer positions at the University of Heidelberg, and visiting professorships at Leuven, Bordeaux and Göttingen.

He has broad scientific interests in the field of statistical mechanics of complex and disordered systems, with major contributions to the physics of glassy systems, the theory of complex networks, risk modelling, and the spectral theory of sparse random matrices.
