Professor Peter Mackridge, who died on 16 June at age 76, was Emeritus Professor of Modern Greek at St Cross and Dean of Degrees at Oxford University for many years.
"Peter was a beloved teacher, an inspiring supervisor, and a brilliant scholar," Professor Gonda Van Steen expresses, "His research and publications were influential in the field of Modern Greek Studies and shaped the thought and research of many scholars and students around him.
Peter’s career began in King’s Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, where he was a Lecturer in Modern Greek Language and Literature from 1974 to 1981."
He will be greatly missed.
