Professor Alan Cameron, 1938-2017

The Department of Classics is saddened to share news that Professor Alan Cameron, the department's Chair of Latin from 1972-1977, has passed away in New York.

While at King's he published the study for which he is still best known, Circus Factions. Blues and Greens at Rome and Byzantium (1976).

After his time at King's, Alan moved to Columbia University, New York, to take up the post of Charles Anthon Professor of Latin Language and Literature. 

He was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1975 and in 2013 was awarded the Academy's Kenyon Medal for Classical Studies and Archaeology.
