Professor Mona Siddiqui joins the Department of Theology & Religious Studies

Professor Mona Siddiqui, OBE, joins King’s from the University of Edinburgh for the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

King's Faculty of Arts & Humanities welcomes Professor Mona Siddiqui, OBE, as Professor of Religion and Society in the Department of Theology & Religious Studies. Professor Siddiqui's work spans theology, ethics, and Christian- Muslim relations. Professor Siddiqui is also recognised for her public contributions to debates on religion and society.

I am delighted and grateful to begin a new and exciting chapter at King's College London. As Professor of Religion and Society, the TRS department will be my academic home with interdisciplinary engagement across the university.

Professor Mona Siddiqui OBE

Professor Siddiqui joins King’s from the University of Edinburgh, where she was Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies. She is an internationally renowned academic and broadcaster, whose research and teaching explore theology and ethics within Islam and Christianity. Alongside her academic work, she contributes to national media, public lectures, and advisory roles.

Professor Siddiqui will bring her world-leading knowledge and expertise to our vibrant Theology and Religious Studies department and greatly enrich our faculty and the university. Her appointment marks our continuing desire to grow our world-wide engagement in ethics and religions.

Professor Edward Adams, Head of Department, Theology & Religious Studies welcomes Mona; 'We are thrilled to welcome Professor Siddiqui to the Department of Theology & Religious Studies.  She will add new strands of research in Islamic thought and Christian-Muslim relations, and strengthen our profile through her civic and media engagement on religious and ethical issues.' 

Professor Mona Siddiqui is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions for her research, creativity and contribution to public life. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in March 2005 where she served as VP International from 2022-2025.  She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2011 Birthday Honours for services to inter-faith relations. In 2016 she gave the prestigious Gifford lectures at the University of Aberdeen and in 2019, Professor Siddiqui was elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences - International Honorary Member (2019). She is well known for her regular contributions to Thought for the Day and The Moral Maze on BBC Radio 4, and as a cultural commentator in a variety of print media.
