During Professor Kapur’s first term, the University has seen significant investment in student success and research excellence, an agile response to the Covid-19 pandemic and significant campus developments in the Strand Quarter, the Quad for Engineering, the Pears-Maudsley Centre, and the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE). Most recently the University has also risen in international rankings, achieving a top five UK position in the QS World University Rankings.

Under Professor Kapur's continued leadership, King's will approach its 2029 bicentenary with a strategic focus on ensuring continued advances in research, teaching, and impact over the next five years and beyond.

Lord Simon Stevens, Chair of the King's College Council said: “I am delighted we have been able to reappoint Professor Shitij Kapur for a further five year term as our Vice Chancellor and President.

"Under his leadership, King's has gone from strength to strength, navigating a tough external environment while seizing opportunities to grow our national impact, global reach and teaching and research excellence. Shitij also continues to make influential interventions on our behalf in critical national debates on funding pressures in higher education, academic freedom and free speech, and other issues of increasing concern.

"As King's heads towards its bicentenary in 2029, under Shitij's leadership the University can continue to look forward with ambition, confidence and determination."

Professor Shitij Kapur said: "As I reflect on the many achievements of the King’s community over the last five years, there is certainly much for us all to take pride in. As a community, we have worked through and endured some unprecedented challenges, but kept true to our commitment to each other, to our students and staff, and to 'make the world a better place'.

It is a privilege for a Vice Chancellor to have a supportive Council, a talented senior team and ambitious and talented staff and students. I am excited by the possibilities before us and delighted to have the opportunity to continue on this journey together.
