The Unit's Nursing Associate study is part of its core work

On Tuesday, 1 March 2022 Ian Kessler presented key findings from the Unit's evaluation of the Nursing Associate (NA) role at an event organised by Health Education England (HEE) in the North West. Prof Kessler is Deputy Director of the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Health and Social Care Workforce and leads the ongoing Nursing Associate study.

The event was convened to celebrate five years since the introduction of the NA role and attended by around 150 policy makers and practitioners from health and social care across the region. Keynote speeches by Lord Willis of Knaresborough, author of the report recommending the introduction of the NA role, and by Professor Mark Radford, Chief Nurse at HEE, were followed by contributions by a variety of speakers with a stake in the role: NAs themselves, Higher Education providers, and Trust NA Leads. In presenting Unit findings from several reports, attention was drawn to the new role's take-up and use in an increasing range of care settings, as well as to its developing contribution to improved care outcomes.
