Research paper on antiquities scoops journal award

A paper which offers new insights into the international trade in antiquities and how institutions work to combat the market in looted or fake goods has won a top award.

Professor Anja Shortland (King’s College London) and Dr Sami Fortune Winton (Cranfield University) received the Best Paper Award from the Association of Private Enterprise Education for their article published in the Journal of Private Enterprise.

The paper, Shades of Gray: Product Differentiation in Antiquities Markets, offered a new analysis of governance systems that facilitate trade in antiquities and protects buyers from criminality, opportunism, and law enforcement.

The Best Paper Award was announced on 8 April during the annual meeting of the association in Las Vegas. Prof Shortland received the award from editor of the Journal of Private Enterprise, Professor Edward Stringham.
