Strings, geometry and black holes explored in 23rd European String Workshop
The 23rd European String Workshop took place in King's College London's Department of Mathematics in April 2018, exploring strings, geometry and black holes.
Held over five days in the Edmond J. Safra Lecture Theatre, the workshop attracted speakers and attendees from institutions around the world, and focused on various aspects of string theory, gauge-gravity duality, black holes, quantum field theory, supersymmetry and the diverse connections with geometry.
The meeting was funded by four ERC-funded grants: "Gravity, black holes and strongly coupled quantum matter”, "The gauge/gravity duality and geometry in string theory”, "Higgs bundles: supersymmetric gauge theories and geometry", and "Quantum black holes: a macroscopic window into the microstructure of gravity”.
Organised between King's, Imperial College London and the University of Oxford, the event's speakers represented universities including Amsterdam, Caltech, Cambridge, Cornell, Crete, Harvard, Milan, Oxford, Technion, UPenn and Uppsala, among many others.
